Containers serve as the base for seasonal flowerpots. Select one carefully, and you'll enjoy it all year long. Here is a checklist to help you pick the ideal container for your porch or balcony!
DRAINAGE
Make sure your outdoor container has adequate drainage. Avoid water pooling at the bottom. If your container doesn't have a hole, you can drill one yourself or consider buying a new container.
SIZE
This is the moment to take out your tape measure. A common error people make with containers is purchasing ones that are too small for the area. If you're decorating a front porch doorway, avoid placing flowerpots that only reach your knees. Opt for larger containers that are at least hip height.
COLOR & TEXTURE
The ideal container complements the distinct personality and style of a home. For homes with black accents, a sleek modern design would be ideal for placement on either side of the front door. Conversely, a more traditional home might be enhanced by a container with a warm texture and rounded shape. Keep in mind the design principle that opposites attract. Doorways with angular designs are best paired with round containers to soften the lines, while a square container would enhance an ornate doorway.
